Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

While I was planning the menu for Kate's party, I took to twitter and asked my favorite mommas if they had any great oatmeal raisin cookie recipes to share.  I am not a fan of oatmeal raisin cookies so I never make them and therefore did not have a go to recipe.

Several people responded and I ended up doing a test run of my sweet friend Diana's recipe.  The cookies were amazing - and that says a lot coming from someone who doesn't even like oatmeal raisin cookies.  They were a HUGE hit at the party!

I decided to make cookies to celebrate Kate's one year post transplant anniversary and went right back to this recipe because they are that good! But this time I swapped chocolate chips for raisins.

They were divine. I'm talking one of the best cookies I've ever eaten.

Thankfully Diana gave me the ok to share the recipe with y'all so run out and make these, ok?

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
From the Better Homes & Gardens cookbook circa 1908s

1 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup shortening (I followed Diana's suggestion and used the Crisco sticks)
1 egg
2 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cup quick cooking oats
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (or raisins like the original recipe calls for)

In a large mixing bowl stir together flour, both sugars, salt, and baking soda. Add shortening, egg, milk, and vanilla. Mix together with your hands (can use a spoon but hands are easiest/ best) until well mixed. Stir in oats and chocolate chips (or raisins).

Preheat oven to 350. Grease cookie sheet or use a silpat mat.
Drop dough in tablespoon size mounds about two inches apart.
Bake for approximately 12 minutes (you don't want to over cook).

I wish I had a picture to share! Unfortunately we inhaled these cookies and I thought of a picture way after the fact.

Y'all enjoy! And do not blame be for any weight gain that may occur due to eating a dozen of these yummy cookie fresh from the oven!

So glad you liked them. I can't make them without eating the whole batch, so needless to say I don't make them much......
