Hospital Bag Help!

So, I realized last night that I really need to start thinking about my hospital bag and what all I will need to pack for not only me but for Alex and Kate as well.

I will either have a scheduled induction or a c-section.  That decision will be made in about 3 weeks depending on Kate's position and whether or not my body is showing signs of being "favorable for induction".  Either way, we will probably be in the hospital 3 nights.

I need help!  So, all of you moms help this pregnant chick out!

I am the type that will want to shower, do my hair, and put on make-up for pictures and visitors so don't waste your time telling me my blow dryer, straightener, and make-up will just take up space.  I am also very modest and don't want to risk wearing something that might allow things to hanging out.

We are still undecided about breastfeeding so I may or may not need items related to that.

What were your must have items that I probably am not thinking about (like not a camera - that will be there)?  What was great to have for your husband?  What did you bring for the baby?  Am I crazy for wanting to dress her in her own clothes while in the hospital?

Any other tips would be much appreciated!  Thanks in advance!

31 Weeks!!!

How Far Along: 31 weeks!

Total Weight Gain: 20 pounds total - I gained 3.5 pounds in the 3 weeks between my appointments.  I'll get weighed again on Thursday!

Maternity Clothes: Still the same - bottoms are all maternity, dresses are a mix, and tops of pretty much all pre-pregnancy clothes!

Stretch Marks: Nothing new

Best Moment this Week: My amazing baby shower - I should have pictures today or tomorrow and will recap as soon as I get more - my mom sent me a few so here is one of my mom, me, my sister, and my grandmother.

Movement: Lots! She was moving like crazy yesterday - and I still have a head in my ribs.

Food Cravings: Tomatoes - but only Mississippi tomatoes.  I am eating about one a day - my MIL brought me some at the shower and they are delicious!!

Labor Signs: No

Belly Button Innie or Outtie: It's still an innie but barely!

What are You Looking Forward to this Week: Growth scan on Thursday to see how big Kate is!

June 29, 2010

There should be a rule....

That states pregnant women are allowed to consume alcohol while putting together baby gear.

I have attempted to put our swing together for the past two nights.  Both nights I did not get farther than seeing all of the pieces in the box and opening the huge instruction manual.

Last night I even cried while looking at box because I was so overwhelmed.

Alex took the box away and said we will do it on Monday.  He then proceeded to help me get nice and comfy on the couch, brought me a big glass of water, turned on the Bachelorette, and hid in his office.

What a smart man he is.

All I could think about was how much easier the process of setting everything up would be if I could have a glass (or 4) of a good red wine.

Sigh.

I have officially turned into a big, swollen, hormonal mess.

June 27, 2010

Until I get baby shower pictures...

I don't have any pictures from my shower right now - I am waiting for them to be sent my way!  But, it was beautiful and we were so blessed with tons of amazing gifts by our very generous friends and family members!

So, I will have to share the one picture I do have - my breakfast Saturday morning!

Nothing gets your day going quite like an order of beignets and a cafe au lait from Cafe du Monde!!

Appointment Update!!!

Everything looks great!

I gained 3.5 pounds in 3 weeks and am officially up 20 pounds total.  My doctor told me she thinks I'll gain 8-10 more pounds in the next 8 weeks before delivery.  Not to shabby.

We had a quick ultrasound and realized that Kate is now in a breech position.  She is Frank breech meaning her head is in my ribs and so are her feet - she is completely folded up like a V!  We're hoping that she flips head down in the next few weeks as I really would like to avoid a c-section.

The most exciting news of the entire appointment is that we will be welcoming our little lady the week of August 16.  It is looking like her birthday will be August 18 which sounds perfect to me!

I can't believe we have less than 8 weeks to get ready.  We still need to finish the nursery, organize tons of things, figure out what we get at our showers, and then purchase everything else!  Most importantly, Alex and I need to find some time to spend as a couple!

I am just amazed that this is really happening - our baby girl is coming!!!

Pregnant Lady Dinner

Well, it looks like my aversion to meat is back in full force.  I went weeks during my first trimester without consuming any meat and after tonight's dinner, I think my body is reverting back to that mentality.

Here's what I ate for dinner:
  • 2 tomatoes - my MIL brought me some amazing tomatoes from MS when they came this weekend - they are so delicious and I cannot stop eating them.  She is so wonderful that she is bringing me more tomatoes this weekend since I will see her at my baby shower.  MS tomatoes are the best ever!!
  • Mexican rice - We ordered take out from our favorite Mexican place a few days ago and had some rice left over!  It was delish!
  • Squash - again courtesy of my MIL.  When they were in town this past weekend she cooked a wonderful dinner on Sunday while I sat on that couch - I'm so blessed and thankful of everything she did (and does) for me!  I ate all of the left over squash tonight.
  • Sweet Potato - I put some in to bake when I got home from work and enjoyed one tonight.  Also very delish.
  • Skinny Cow Ice Cream bar - need I say more?
My dinner was so yummy and exactly what I wanted - even though it was very random.  I'm wondering how long this anti-meat kick sticks around!

30 Weeks!!

I am in complete disbelief that I am 30 weeks pregnant.  Where has the time gone?  This pregnancy has flown by.  While I am so excited to meet Kate in less that 2 months, I am starting to get a bit sad/ emotional that what may be my only pregnancy is coming to a close.

How Far Along: 30 weeks!

Total Weight Gain: I will find out tomorrow but, last check I was up 16.5 pounds total.
Maternity Clothes: Still the same - bottoms are all maternity, dresses are a mix, and tops of pretty much all pre-pregnancy clothes!

Stretch Marks: I noticed one on my hip.  Oh well - at least it isn't my belly!

Best Moment this Week: Finalizing the nursery furniture (we went with the buffet) and picking out a color for it!

Movement: Lots!  I also currently have something stuck in my ribs.  I'm assuming it is a hand/ arm based on her current position.

Food Cravings: No

Labor Signs: My braxton hicks contractions are picking up a bit but, they are still under the 6/ hour threshold which is good.

Belly Button Innie or Outtie: It's still an innie but barely!

What are You Looking Forward to this Week: My baby shower on Saturday!!  I am so, so excited about it!!!

June 21, 2010

So I was driving to my hair appointment today...

When all of the sudden this pulled up next to me:

Yes, that would be a giraffe head/ neck in the back of a truck. Um, what the hell? It wasn't plastic - it was like a real giraffe with fur and such. Like someone had gone to African on a safari, killed a prize giraffe (is this even legal?), and shipped it back to Houston to me mounted and displayed in their house?

How would you even display this thing?  Hang it on the wall sticking out a bunch?  Put the base of the neck on the floor?  I just don't even know...

It was very odd.  I was on the phone with my sweet friend Erin when I saw it.  I told her that I had to go so I could get a picture to blog about!  I mean how often do you see giraffe necks in pick-up trucks?

So, after the giraffe shock, I made my way to the salon to get my hair done!  It is a bit shorter than I was expecting but I think it looks cute.  Here are some not so great iPhone pictures I had Alex take.  Please excuse my super pale skin and the huge bags under my eyes.  I hope to return to my non zombie self in a few months.

Hopefully my prenatals will help it to grow out just a bit before Kate gets here.  But, overall I am impressed with the cut and am loving how cool it is in the heat!

Happy Father's Day!!!

Happy Father's Day to all of the amazing fathers out there!

I am so thankful to have so many men in my life to celebrate today!

First, I am so thankful for Alex - he is going to be such a great Dad to Kate.  If he loves and spoils her as much as he spoils our rotten dogs she will have it made!  I am so thankful that he is the man that will be my child's father and I cannot wait to see him in action come August!

This was the first time my Dad saw me in my wedding dress

I am also thankful for my Dad.  He has been an amazing father over the past 25 years of my life.  Anyone who knows us knows that we have definitely had our fair share of run in over the years.  However, I attribute 90% of those runs to the fact that we have the EXACT same personality - makes it easy to have run ins when two stubborn, strong willed people are "discussing" something!  (The other 10% I would attribute to me being a difficult teenager!)

While our personality may have causes some run ins I wouldn't trade it for the world.  It is wonderful to have someone in my life that understand how I think, where I am coming from, and just understands me so well!  So, thank you Dad for being there for me and "getting" me!

Me and my Paw-paw at his 90th Birthday Party in October 2009 - just a few weeks before he passed away

I am thinking about my Dad a little bit more today as this is the first Father's Day he will go through without his Dad.  My Paw-paw passed away in November.  He lived a long, full life and we all know that he is in a much better place but, I would imagine today is hard on my Dad knowing that he will never spend another Father's Day with his Father.

I am also thankful for my father-in-law for raising such a great son!  And, for recognizing that he has the best daughter-in-law ever!

And last, but certainly not least, I am thankful for my brother-in-law Jeff.  My sister is such a lucky woman to have a wonderful husband that is also an amazing father.  Jeff is such a great example of a Godly father figure and I am so glad my nephews are blessed with him as their Dad!

And to my brother (who is big and bad at 19 years old) - I better NOT be celebrating you as a father for YEARS - got that?

June 17, 2010

Decisions, decisions!!

I am in the process of selecting and antique dresser/ buffet to use in the nursery as our changing table and for additional storage.  Which ever we select will be refinished in an antique white and possibly distressed just the slightest bit.  I also will add very girly pulls/ handles to the piece.  (I say "I will do/ add" when in actuality I am paying someone to refinish it for me - I am just not a big time DIYer and have no desire to watch over Alex's shoulder while he complains lovingly refinishes furniture for me.)

The problem is, I've found two pieces that I really love - they are just a bit different.

The French dresser:

Pros:
  • Beautiful
  • More storage
  • A bit deeper (by 3/4 of an inch - so not much)
Cons:
  • Very long (it would take up almost an entire wall at 75" long)
  • Shorter (only 32" tall - would this hurt my back when changing her?)
  • More expensive
The buffet:

Pros:
  • Taller (35" - pretty standard for a changing table)
  • Cheaper
  • Not as long which would allow me to add a precious spindle corner shelf on the same wall
Cons:
  • Not as deep (could she wiggle off?),
  • Much smaller piece (only 45" long) so it won't really make a statement
  • Not as intricate at the French dresser
So, faithful readers, which do you prefer and why?  And, if you are a mom - what are your thoughts on my concerns about height and depth?

Thanks so much!

29 Weeks!

How Far Along: 29 weeks!

Total Weight Gain: 16.5 pounds as of two weeks ago - I go back next week and will find out where I stand then.
Maternity Clothes: Still the same - bottoms are all maternity, dresses are a mix, and tops of pretty much all pre-pregnancy clothes!

Stretch Marks: Nope

Best Moment this Week: We had a bit of a scare on Friday (I didn't blog about it but I went several hours without feeling any movement and got VERY worried that something was wrong).  Seeing a heartbeat and a moving baby on the ultrasound machine was the best feeling in a world.  And, Kate will be grounded until she is 18 for getting me so worked up.

Movement: All the time! This morning Oliver was propped on my belly and Kate did not like it.  She started kicking him so hard and he was so confused!  I'm betting they will have a love/ hate relationship for a while!

Food Cravings: No
Labor Signs: NO!

Belly Button Innie or Outtie: It's still an innie!

What are You Looking Forward to this Week: Going to a friend's baby shower and being that much closer to my baby shower - which is next weekend!

June 15, 2010

A Few Random Things...

So, I thought I would just do a dump of some randomness!

Heat
It is hot - very hot.  I knew that it would be hot this summer - it is, after all, summertime in Houston.  It will be hot until October/ November.

However, stating the obvious to a pregnant woman over and over is not going to get anyone anywhere.  I am shocked by how many people find the need to tell me how miserable I am going to be this summer.  Um, thank you Captain Obvious.

Also, don't tell me that I should have planned my pregnancy better to avoid the heat.  I am thankful to be pregnant at all - I don't care that it is officially 45845 degrees outside.

So, when you come up and tell me "I've been waiting to see you miserable in the heat so I could tell you what bad timing you had when getting pregnant" don't be surprised when you are hit in the face and I say "I've been waiting for you to say something stupid so I finally had a reason to slap you".  Yes this really happened - well not the slapping part but, if I hear something like that one more time I have a feeling I might be fired due my less than professional reaction.

Birth Plans
I am absolutely shocked by women's birth plans these days.  Did you know that some women provide their doctors and nurses with 10 pages of ridiculousness that will just be ignored because it is insane to begin with requests for their birthing experience?  Things like the type of music they want playing, the scent of candles they want burning, and that all medical professionals must properly introduce themselves before entering the room.  I'm not kidding.

I can promise you that the last thing on my mind when in labor is going to be a freaking candle or some music.

What is my "birth plan" you may ask?

For the hospital to do what ever needs to be done to ensure I have a living baby to bring home.  That's it.

Well, I may have a few other things.

Such as give me what ever drugs you can legally provide so that I am free of pain and in a happy place.  Also, I might even tell the nurse that if Alex is driving me crazy trying a bit too hard to offer me support and I look aggravated, it may be in the best interest of all involved parties (and my marriage) to go ahead and just let him pass out and not wake him until a clean, cute baby girl is ready to be held.  Or to just up those meds they are pumping in me to get rid of my attitude.

Seems easy enough to me.

Motivation
I pretty much have none of this at the present time.  The nursery is at a standstill, I have not made a baby purchase in weeks (although this is intentional - I am waiting on shower gifts so we can see what we really need), and I am pretty much behind on everything that I wanted to have completed by now.

I'm hoping motivation returns so I can finish everything on time!

Showers
I am beyond excited about my showers!  My first shower will be in Mandeville in about 1.5 weeks and I am giddy!  It is like a kid waiting for Christmas.  I have friends coming in from all over and I cannot wait to see them.  I also cannot wait to see how beautiful the shower itself is - my friends and family have been working hard on planning it and I know it is going to be simply amazing!

My second shower is set for the middle of July here in Houston - and it is a girly tea party!  I'm pretty sure it is going to be perfection as well!  I can't wait to celebrate with my friends here and have a super girly party!  My friends here are also doing an amazing job planning and I can't wait to see it all come together!

I'm sure Kate is going to be spoiled rotten by the time she gets here!

Ok- that's all for now - although I'm sure I'll have more random thoughts over the next 9 weeks - yep, only 9 more weeks until baby girl is here!  EKKKK!!!!

June 14, 2010

33!!!

That would be the number of days I have left in the office!

As of now, my last day is set for July 30!  That should give me about 2 weeks at the house before having the baby!

I am so ready to start my 6-7 months off!

Alex and I are so fortunate to work for a company that has amazing maternity benefits.  I have the option of taking up to 2 years off (without pay) with job guarantee!  I will be taking my 8 weeks paid leave and then adding on an additional 4-5 months of unpaid leave!

I am just so thankful that we are able to financially swing this as the thought of putting a little 8 week old baby in daycare makes me sick to my stomach.  I know it won't be easy to go back to work but, at least Kate will be older by the time we enroll her into a center!  Hopefully we will have a very established routine which should make my transition back that much easier!

Now, if I could just find that extra bit of motivation to complete everything on my plate work wise in those next 33 days....

June 13, 2010

One of those days....

I'm having one of those days - you know where you are tired, mentally exhausted, whiny, and really need a nap.

Ok, maybe grown adults don't normally have days that look identical to those of an overstimulated two year old.  But, today, I'm having one of those days.

I woke up early (before 7am - both days this weekend - not my idea of fun) after getting up a one too many times last night due to being so uncomfortable I simply couldn't sleep.

In attempts to cheer me up, Alex made me a big breakfast - bacon, eggs, homemade biscuits - the works.  It was so good.  Except for the fact that I couldn't eat but a few bites because my lovely child is sitting so high up.  She is lay transverse and her entire body is pretty much above my belly button - it is miserable.

My stomach is likely in my esophagus at this point and it is NOT fun at all.

After breakfast we took the dogs for a walk.  It wasn't even 8:30 yet it was so hot I could barely move.  I'm sure my neighbors got a kick out of watching the pregnant woman waddle down the street at snails pace.  I looked pathetic and felt even worse.

By the time we got home I was already over the day.  I attempted to make a grocery list and come up with things to cook this week.  I failed at that too.

Just as I was about to leave for the grocery (and have a major whiny fit like a toddler), Alex told me to just turn off all the lights, go get comfy on the couch, and take a nice long nap.

It was exactly what I needed.  I slept for about 2 hours - and thankfully the dogs cooperated and slept with me.

I'm not sure if it is the fact that I am 7 months pregnant, the unbearable heat, my lack of sleep, or a combination of all three but I struggling these days.

After my nap I woke up feeling like a (semi) new woman, tackled the grocery, and am now about to make some homemade gumbo - I need comfort food on a day like today!

Here's to hoping that tomorrow is better and these toddler like days are few and far between!

June 10, 2010

So today I learned that...

If you are 7 months pregnant and decide to wear 4 inch heels to work, and then decide to take said heels off while you work all day at your desk, make sure your feet don't get too swollen to put your shoes back on so that you can leave the office.

Yes, I had that issue today.  It took me a solid 3-4 minutes to get my shoes back on this afternoon so that I could leave.

Note to self: Don't wear heels...or at least keep them on during the day!

June 9, 2010

28 Weeks! 7 Months Pregnant!

Huge - that would be a great word to describe how I look in this picture.  To my defense, sweet little girl had her butt sticking straight out (see the bump on the bottom part of my belly) which I think made me look bigger.  Either way, I am definitely growing! And my chin wants to get on board with the growth - notice the face chub?  Not cool!

How Far Along: 28 weeks or 7 months - that is just crazy to me!

Total Weight Gain: 16.5 pounds as of last week- I'm hoping my 2.5 pounds per week was just a fluke and that I only gain 1ish pounds a week from here on out.  That would put me right at 25-27 pounds total which seems perfect to me.
Maternity Clothes: All bottoms are maternity, dresses are a mix, and tops are still regular clothes!

Stretch Marks: Nope - but my belly skin is very tight these days.  I'm applying lotion like crazy and praying nothing shows up.

Best Moment this Week: Our hospital tour last night!  It was wonderful and made things so real!  We are brand new babies that were just precious!  And we saw HUGE brand new baby that freaked me out.  I am way too tiny to birth a 10 pound 23 inch child.

Movement: All the time! She has a thing for our news anchor apparently.  Whenever we watch the nightly news she goes crazy - but only if it is on Fox news.  Weird!

Food Cravings: Fresh Fruit (although I was a big fruit fan pre-pregnancy so this is probably not an actual craving)

Labor Signs: NO!

Belly Button Innie or Outtie: It's still an innie!

What are You Looking Forward to this Week: Hopefully making some progress on the nursery!!

The Great (nick) Name Debate

I am seriously stressing out about what we are going to call this baby.

She has a name - Katherine Elizabeth - and we both love it!

Too bad we don't agree on a nick name.

When we picked out the name, Alex didn't really express his disdain for the name Kate.  However, over the past 12+ weeks he has become more and more vocal about how he simply will not call her Kate and does not want us to use Kate as her nn.

Um, honey, that would have been wonderful to know 12 weeks ago.

So, I feel like we are back to the name drawing board.  No, we won't be changing her formal name.  But, I have a feeling I might be on the losing end of a marital battle  for the first time ever.  Yes, that's right, I like to win when I fight/ argue - no one should be surprised by that!

I want to keep calling her Kate.  Alex wants to call her Katie or Katie Beth.  My mom is siding with Alex on this one (yeah, she flipped teams - really Mom?  I kid...kind of).  My ILs are just going with the flow on all of this.  But, I secretly think all of the MS family would love a double name - that's just my suspicion though!  And, my BFF is calling her Katie Beth (but I think that is b/c she is a bit biased since she is Erin Beth)!

This has made monogramming items extra hard.  I would hate to have a ton of stuff with Kate all over it only to call her Katie Beth.  But, I want stuff with her name plastered all over it.   Sigh...

Anyone wonder why we are doing a monogram over her crib?  Um, yeah it's because we don't have a name to go over it!

I'm hoping she just comes out and we say "Ah ha, she has to be called this". Because of this hope, I am avoiding the nick name talk like the plague. I have no desire to argue about this (and let's get real, I don't want to lose this battle) so I simply avoid.

But, this uncertainty is absolutely killing this Type A control freak...

Nasty Drinks, Weight Gain, and Sweet Chubby Cheeks!!

Yesterday was quite the day!

I worked until a little past lunch and then headed to my doctor's office for a date with this:

For those of you not familiar with this lovely, sugary, nasty, orange drink, it is used for the Glucose Tolerance Test that pregnant women have done.  Let's just say we are not BFF.  I hope I never have to drink ones of these again.  It is sugary and yuck and you have to drink it in 5 minutes, then wait an hour, and have your blood taken.  I am just praying that I passed so that I don't have to have date #2 for the three hour test.

I felt so sick after downing it but I managed to not puke.  The only reason I kept it down was because I knew if I threw up I would have to drink it again.  No thank you.  Once is enough for me.  I should know my results within a week.

After my blood draw I headed upstairs to my doctor's office and man was it crowded.  Alex arrived right as I was getting called back - it was really perfect timing!

I did my usual: drop off a urine sample, have my blood pressure taken (110/70 - a tad higher than my norm of 100/60 but still good), and step on the scale.  I was shocked when my nurse told me that I have gained 5 pounds in 2 weeks (total gain is 16.5 pounds at 27 weeks).  Um, insert Lindsey freaking out here.

I realize that I gained weight VERY slow in the beginning and my body is just doing what it needs to do now so that Kate has all of the nutrients she needs to pack on the fat and get ready for life on the outside.  However, I just wasn't mentally prepared to hear that I put on so much weight.  My nurse did a dance and was so excited that I am finally gaining substantial amounts of weight so at least I know that this gain is good, and much needed.

I quickly got over the shock of the scale when my ultrasound started and I got to see baby girl rocking the chubby cheeks again.  Look at this cuteness:

I guess I can tolerate gaining weight as long as Kate keeps packing it in her cheeks!  She is going to rival Kim's cuties in the cheek department!!

Overall it was a great appointment.  I got the all clear to start taking Tylenol PM a few nights a week to help with my lack of sleeping and I also will be starting an acid reflux medication to help with my heart burn!  I go back in 2 weeks for a growth scan and check-up!

Don't forget about my give away post below!

27 Weeks!

Here are my latest pictures!  I feel like I am carrying super high.  Apparently my rear end has decided that it needs to be pregnant too and grow - I am not happy about that.  Also, my thighs are touching for the first time in my life when standing - this makes dresses and 95+ days not so fun.  My motivation to drop all of this weight and growth once Kate is here is at an all time high!  She better love her stroller b/c I am going to be walking/ jogging off these pounds as fast as I possibly can.

How Far Along: 27 weeks

Total Weight Gain: 11.5 pounds as of two weeks ago - I'll know on Thursday where I stand now

Maternity Clothes: All bottoms are maternity, dresses are a mix, and tops are still regular clothes!

Stretch Marks: My belly is still clear of them!

Best Moment this Week: Figuring out what we are going to do with the nursery/ office/ guest room issues we were having!

Movement: All the time!  She is most active when I first wake up and when I am watching the news in bed at night.

Food Cravings: None

Labor Signs: NO!

Belly Button Innie or Outtie: Innie but it is getting shallower - I am praying I don't get an outtie as they kind of freak me out.

What are You Looking Forward to this Week: My appointment on Thursday!  I am NOT looking forward to my glucose test before said appointment though.

Why hello there 3rd Tri!

I cannot believe that I am more than 2/3 of the way done with this pregnancy!  Where has the time gone?

Everyone told me that pregnancy drags on for 9 long months but, it has been the complete opposite for me.  I can't even being to figure out how I am 27 weeks pregnant.  I am so excited to be at this point but just really shocked that is has flown by.

I am also slightly sad that it has gone so quickly because Alex and I are 97% sure this will be my only pregnancy.  After everything it took to get, and stay, pregnant, I just don't really have it in me to try that hard again.  So, I am on a mission to really cherish these last weeks of kicks and sleepless night while selfishly having Kate all to myself! (I'll be honest, the thought of sharing her with the world kind of freaks me out - I want all the baby cuddles to myself.)

The countdown is on for real now - we have about 11 weeks until we are set to meet this little one and I am so excited!!!

On a different note, Brittany - I need you to post pics from the wedding ASAP!  I am dying to see how beautiful everything was!
